Rajasthan Government launches initiative to promote vocational education for girls
Jaipur: Rajasthan Education Department has been at the forefront of promoting online education for students during the Covid pandemic. As schools begin to resume, the Department is taking another major initiative to support girls to continue education in vocational and life skills.
The Rajasthan Education Department signed an MOU with IPE Global for Project Manzil. Manzil, a path breaking project, funded by the Children Investment Fund Foundation, UK aims to facilitate retention of adolescent girls in schools and to ensure effective transition from school to further studies and work.
Several girls drop out of school and marry early, mostly because parents do not see any alternate pathways to secure their future. Girl’s access to vocational opportunities is limited due to lack of information and understanding. Manzil will work to counsel girls in schools so that they are able to take up vocational courses in an informed way. The project will also focus on life skills.
Dr. Bhanwarlal, Commissioner SMSA said, “The New Education Policy has placed an emphasis on vocational education. This will be a good beginning. While the Department has been doing some work on the vocational part, it will be a pleasure to have an expert Organization like IPE Global. We look forward to achieving new heights."
Mr Padma Kumar, COO IPE Global signed the MoU on behalf of the Organization, “We are excited about this opportunity. This is a unique initiative that aims to promote internships and apprenticeships for girls under vocationalization along with employability skill. We look forward to working with the Education Department."
Adolescent girls with employability skills and prospects of employment are 23% less likely to marry early. Manzil hopes to set an example wherein girls participate actively in vocational education and are linked with local employers for exposure visits and internships to understand various work opportunities and can decidedly determine their own future course.
Manzil, will work across 6 districts of Dungarpur, Udaipur, Bhilwara, Ajmer, Tonk and Jaipur.
