This year what we have seen is a dramatic epidemic of Dengue fever: Dr. Pankaj Anand, Senior Consultant, Critical Care & Emergency at Fortis Escorts Hospital Jaipur
Every year during this time of the year, we get a lot of patients who come to us with seasonal diseases. This year what we have seen is a dramatic epidemic of Dengue fever. As we all know, it is a viral fever that is transmitted by mosquitoes, unlike the previous years where we generally got patients having just fever or low platelet count, we are seeing a much higher number of patients who are coming to us with the involvement of other body organs like brain, we've got a lot of patients with dengue and Encephalitis, which is the swelling of the brain, many patients who have come to us with an acute liver failure or acute kidney failure secondary to dengue and their condition had been very critical unlike what it used to be in the previous 2-3 years. Many of them, despite our best efforts we couldn't save them.
There are cases in Jaipur, but Alwar, Ajmer and adjoining areas have been the hotbeds of serious dengue cases this time.
Now with the entry of a new variant (Omicron), there is a chance of a third wave coming up. We're listening to sporadic cases of Covid after 2-3 months. Fortunately, we haven't come across many Malaria patients which used to be a very common situation earlier.
